Juventus:Fabio Quagliarella 12
Juventus go out with a bang(Juventus Official Website)
An optimal Juve overcame Chivas de Gauadalajara and finished the American tour in the better possible way, with a very convincing performance. The theatre of this last act was the impressive Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, a facility designed for NCAA football which usually hosts Wolfpack from NC State University with a capacity of more than 60,000 seats.
Following the positive performance against Club America, Conte was looking for confirmations from all his men and therefore he operated some changes as compared to the formation fielded in New York. Storari replaced Buffon, the forward pair was made up of Quagliarella and Toni, and on the right side Pepe was back, having recovered from his muscle strain.
Since the very beginning, the match was spirited and openly played. The first offensive action occurred in the 5th minute due to Fabian from Chivas. His right-foot shot from a good position went high over the crossbar. Juventus were able to manage the situation, Pepe tried to find Toni on the box edge, but unfortunately his cross was too high. However, in the 12th minute, the Bianconeri’s goal came. Quagliarella took advantage of an embarrassing slip by Magallon who stumbled on the ball at the edge of the box, and without hesitations Fabio diagonally kicked towards the goal and netted (1-0). Chivas weren’t able to operate ball possession, also due to the Bianconeri’s careful defense, and Juve were active forward, coming very close to their second goal in the 22nd minute, with Quagliarella again who received the ball from Toni on the edge of the box and tried his right-foot shot, unfortunately went to the side of the post. An amazing action occurred in the 25th minute, with first touches only from all players involved: Pasquato, Toni, Quagliarella and Pepe, with the striker from Campania who opened towards the winger with a 30 meters throw. Unfortunately, the shot struck the Mexican goalkeeper Michel Luis while exiting out of the goal.
With these quick combinations and few touches, Juventus seemed to be increasingly improving, as compared to the game against Sporting, but also to that against Club America occurred two days ago only.
Chivas instead were focused on the central percussive action from Arellano, who won a couple of tackles and reached the box, but was stopped by Pazienza. In the 36th minute, Pepe showed his brilliance with a wonderful run along the side edge and a deceiving feint, but his shot hit the post and went out. Arellano tried again to push his team, but his conclusion found Storari focused and ready to save. The Bianconeri’s goalkeeper was equally attentive when cleared Ponce’s screamer and Esparza’s right shot, the latter taking both teams to the dressing rooms.
Conte started the second half without changes, and Juventus showed the same drive as in the first half. Quagliarella was immediately looking for a double, but his left-foot shot following Pazienza’s cross went to the side of the post. The match was less exciting than in the first 45 minutes, but equally tough. Juventus were well placed on the pitch, and also their health shape seemed to be improved. Both sides made some changes and completely upset the formations, but to feel a shiver down the spine we had to wait until the 35th minute, when Mora hit the external post from far. Juve responded with Del Piero, whose free kick forced Hernandez to intervene.
No other exciting feelings arose from the match. However, Juventus gave the impression to be solid and quick, having improved their tactical mechanisms and health condition during this America tour, especially thanks to the hard work wanted by their manager. But their work isn’t over: after the game, they immediately took the flight to Italy where they’ll continue their preaparation.
