Serie A Matchday 26 Juventus 3-0 Siena @ Juventus Stadium Juvwntus:Stephan Lichtsteiner 30,Sebastian Giovinco 74,Paul Pogba 89 Three-goal Juve sink Siena(Juventus Official Website)
The Bianconeri strengthened their grip on first place with this afternoon’s 3-0 win over Siena at Juventus Stadium. Stephan Lichststeiner bundled the ball home to put Antonio Conte’s men in the driving seat with 31 minutes on the clock, while Sebastian Giovinco and Paul Pogba pounced in the dying stages to guarantee a richly deserved three points. Juventus burst out the traps with plenty of purpose and forged a number of chances in a fundamentally one-sided opening to the affair. Bonucci was first to try his luck on goal, drifting away from his marker to catch Siena unawares from Giovinco’s short corner played to the edge of the penalty area, only to miscue his shot on the turn at the vital moment. A sustained spell of pressure then presented Pirlo with the chance to test Pegolo with a trademark free-kick from 30 yards. The midfielder dispatched a clean right-footed strike, but was unable to keep the ball from rising fractionally over the crossbar. After initially struggling to get into their passing groove, Juventus soon established greater continuity in midfield and almost went ahead when Lichtsteiner and Vucinic combined neatly on the right flank, with the Swiss full-back’s clipped effort from the edge of the area drifting just clear of the target. Sensing the elusive breakthrough could be just a matter of moments away, Conte’s men continued to bombard the Siena penalty area with a sustained assault in the attacking third. Pegolo was called into action on 19 minutes, sprawling to his left to claw out Marchisio’s curling goalbound attempt from the edge of the area. And the goalkeeper’s reflexes were again required three minutes later to repel Giovinco’s left-footed strike that arrowed ominously inside the near post. The Bianconeri’s persistence eventually paid off when Vucinic threaded a delicate pass into the path of the onrushing Lichtsteiner, who shrugged off Pegolo’s attempt to smother by forcing the ball over the line to put the hosts a goal to the good on 31 minutes. Inspired by a passionate following at Juventus Stadium, Conte’s men sought to strengthen their grip on proceedings by establishing a two-goal cushion. Pogba, deputising in midfield for fitness doubt Vidal, was next to draw a save from the Siena shot stopper with a low drilled attempt following a spirited burst from deep. Relegation-threatened Siena, who approached the encounter off the back of commendable wins over Lazio and Inter, emerged for the restart with the intention of breaking up the hosts’ traditional passing approach. But while the Tuscan outfit’s endeavour could not be faulted, Juventus continued to make their class show. Vucinic went a whisker away from connecting with Giovinco’s inviting delivery on 58 minutes, while Pirlo almost brought the house down a minute later with a breathtaking chip from the edge of the area that passed just wide of the upright with Pegolo rooted to the spot. The Bianconeri, however, were made to wait until 74 minutes before extending their advantage. Pirlo played a quick free-kick into the path of Giovinco, and the striker made no mistake with a fierce left-footed strike that flashed past Pegolo into the top corner. The visitors refused to go down without a fight and Juventus had Buffon to thank for two saves as the game drew towards its final stages. Emeghara and Agra were both denied by the goalkeeper’s agility, while Terlizzi set nerves jangling with a long-range attempt that bounced back off the woodwork. But any fears of a Siena comeback were allayed when Pogba drove towards the opposition area and found the bottom corner with a superbly placed strike on 89 minutes. The result takes Juventus seven points clear of nearest rivals Napoli, who travel to Udinese tomorrow evening.

Serie A Matchday 25 Roma 1-0 Juventus @ Stadio Olimpico Roma:Francesco Totti 58 Juve slip to defeat in the capital(Juventus Official Website)
Juventus slipped to a 1-0 defeat in the capital as a dogged Roma ground out their first win under caretaker manager Aurelio Andreazzolli. The Bianconeri looked destined to emerge for the second half with all guns blazing after wielding control of the midfield battle, but found themselves pegged back by Francesco Totti’s 58th minute strike which would eventually prove the difference between the two sides. Andreazzolli had used his pre-match press conference to demand greater cutting edge from his charges, and it appeared his advice had been taken on board as the Giallorossi appeared the most likely to open the scoring in a lively opening at the Stadio Olimpico. The hosts most potent goal threat, Osvaldo, twice unlocked the Bianconeri rearguard in the early stages of the contest. With seven minutes on the clock, the Argentine cut inside Bonucci before firing a right footed shot into the arms of Buffon. And moments later, after straying clear of his marker with an intelligent dart into the channel, the striker rounded the Juve captain but was unable to pick out a team-mate with a low cross into the middle. Having staved off initial Roma pressing, Juventus promptly settled into their rhythm and began to tip the midfield battle back in their favour. Pirlo had the visitors’ most promising opportunity of a tightly-contested first half on 18 minutes, with the midfielder drawing an excellent diving save from Stekelenburg after directing a curling free-kick around the wall. Pogba was next to try his luck from distance, gaining a yard of space outside of the box before unleashing a strike which was comfortably gathered by the Roma shot stopper at his near post. As the metronomic Pirlo began to dictate proceedings in the centre of the park, an ill-judged challenge from Totti threatened to bring the midfielder’s evening to a premature conclusion on the half hour mark, with Bianconeri supporters breathing a collective sigh of relief as he returned to the action after receiving treatment on his knee. After both sides had played out a combative first half lacking in clear-cut chances, a near capacity crowd at the Stadio Olimpico was treated to three goalscoring opportunities in five explosive opening minutes of the restart. Osvaldo was first to go close, collecting Totti’s threaded through pass before prodding the ball just wide of the post, while Vucinic volleyed fractionally wide of the target after connecting with Pogba’s cut back. The trio of opportunities was completed by Pjanic, who stung the fingertips of Buffon courtesy of a well-struck shot from range. Conte subsequently opted to freshen up his side with the introductions of Giovinco and Padoin in place of Vucinic and Asamoah. The manager’s substitutions, however, were unable to stem the tide as the Bianconeri again had Buffon to thank for thwarting Osvaldo’s header when the striker seemed odds on to score. And with the visitors on the back foot as Roma sensed an opportunity to make their increasing pressure count, Totti pounced on Pjanic’s blocked free-kick to lash an unstoppable strike past the despairing dive of Buffon on 58 minutes. With Juventus requiring a way back into the affair, Conte’s final substitution of Vidal for Anelka prompted the implementation of an adventurous 3-4-3 system. The French frontman almost made an instant impact with a perfectly weighted through ball for Giovinco, only for the striker to pass up the opportunity at the vital moment. As the Bianconeri continued to the up ante courtesy of controlled aerial assaults on the opposition penalty area, Roma were forced to rely on the bravery of Stekelenburg, who dealt admirably with several dangerous crosses to protect his team’s lead. Juventus will now use the week ahead to recharge their batteries after a gruelling three games in the space of seven days, with next weekend’s visit of Siena providing an excellent opportunity to get their title aspirations back on course.

UEFA Champions League Round of 16 1st leg. Celtic 0-3 Juventus @ Celtic Park Juventus:Alessandro Matri 3,Claudio Marchisio 77,Mirko Vučinić 83 Clinical Juventus catch Celtic cold(uefa.com)
Celtic FC 0-3 Juventus The visitors withstood fierce home pressure after Alessandro Matri's early goal before Claudio Marchisio and Mirko Vučinić gave them a clear advantage. Juventus produced a display of resolute defending and clinical counterattacking to move within touching distance of reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in seven seasons thanks to an emphatic win at Celtic FC. Alessandro Matri opened the scoring in the third minute and, though the Italian champions were put under strong pressure, they held firm before increasing their lead on the counterattack in the closing stages. Marchisio added a second on 77 minutes and Mirko Vučinić took the Bianconeri within sight of a first last-eight place since 2005/06 with a third goal seven minutes from time. Celtic had threatened first, Victor Wanyama stinging the palms of Gianluigi Buffon from long range with barely 60 seconds on the clock, but almost immediately Juventus broke upfield. Neil Lennon included Efe Ambrose in his starting lineup hours after his return from Nigeria's victorious Africa Cup of Nations campaign and the defender was caught under a high ball from Federico Peluso, allowing Matri to knock the ball past him and slot under the advancing Fraser Forster despite Kelvin Wilson's attempt to prevent it going over the line. Marchisio made sure by firing the loose ball high into the net but referee Alberto Undiano Mallenco had already awarded the goal. The Hoops pressed hard for an equaliser, Kris Commons bringing out another save from Buffon and directing an overhead kick just past the post. However, Antonio Conte's men appeared the more composed side and their constant pressing meant Celtic struggled to find any passing rhythm. The visitors seemed content to sit back as the second period unfolded and, although they now dominated possession, the Scottish title holders were still struggling to create clear-cut chances. Ominously, Andrea Pirlo was starting to direct play in front of the Juve back three, although the strategy was not without risk, emphasised by Charlie Mulgrew's pinpoint left-wing cross that picked out Ambrose unmarked in front of goal. The defender could only head into the arms of Buffon. Juventus were looking dangerous on the counterattack, however, and on 67 minutes only Wilson's outstretched leg denied Vučinić. The Serie A team were not to be denied and with 13 minutes remaining Matri played in the excellent Marchisio, who turned inside Scott Brown before slotting past Forster at the near post. With Celtic's eight-match unbeaten home run against Italian opposition coming to an end, Juventus – losers on their two previous visits to Celtic Park – scored a crowning third in the 83rd minute. Once more Marchisio was at the heart of the move, dispossessing Ambrose and supplying Vučinić to drive beyond Forster and put Juve in a comfortable position for the Turin return on 6 March.
2nd leg.

Serie A Matchday 24 Juventus 2-0 Fiorentina @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Mirko Vučinić 20,Alessandro Matri 41 Dominant Juve put Fiorentina to the sword(Juventus Official Website)
A capacity crowd was in attendance at Juventus Stadium to witness a convincing 2-0 victory over Fiorentina as the offensive duo of Mirko Vucinic and Alessandro Matri each found the back of the net in a particularly dominant first half display. 20 Juve’s convincing start was rewarded when Vucinic lashed a powerful effort home from outside the box on 19 minutes, while Matri doubled the advantage shortly before the break following some good work from Arturo Vidal. The first noteworthy chance of the encounter fell to Marchisio on ten minutes. The midfielder, making his 200th official appearance in the black and white stripes, brilliantly rounded Savic to work a shooting opportunity just outside the box, only to see his fiercely struck left-footed effort roll menacingly past the post with keeper Viviano beaten. Moments later, an intelligent quick free kick from Pirlo caught the away defence off guard. The ever-alert Vucinic connected with the pass, however the Viola shotstopper was alive to the situation to prevent an early Juventus lead. With 17 minutes played, Fiorentina fashioned their best opportunity of the half. After a partially blocked shot from Cuadrado, the ball dropped favourably in the box for Jovetic, and with Marrone wrong footed, the young Montenegrin forward released a low effort which forced a reaction save from the left leg of Buffon. Just two minutes later, the Bianconeri identified a gap in the Viola defence and made their dominance count by achieving the breakthrough. A long pass from Pirlo was directed towards the run of Matri, with Roncaglia’s headed clearance dropping straight into the path of Vucinic, who had no hesitation in lashing home a fierce volley past the diving Viviano. Visibly buoyed by his goal, the Montenegrin almost doubled his tally after strong pressure forced Rodriguez into a mistake. Having won the ball on the right wing, Vucinic drove towards the target but saw his attempt thwarted by Viviano. The Bianconeri doubled their advantage with 41 minutes played. Excellent skill from Vidal drew in the Viola defence, with Matri capitalising on the space to receive the Chilean’s pass and guide a low shot home to bring Juventus Stadium to its feet. Conte’s men were quick out of the blocks after the interval and created their opening chance of the half after just two minutes. De Ceglie burst down the left flank and squared the ball back to the edge of the box, where Vidal struck a powerful effort which fizzed narrowly over the crossbar. A marauding run from the right side of midfield then saw Lichtsteiner thread a dangerous pass between two defenders to find Matri in space, but his effort from a tough angle passed just wide of the far post. The hosts had several chances to add to the lead in the final ten minutes as a sustained spell of pinned Fiorentina back in their own half. After an attempted bicyle kick from the penalty spot, Vidal sprung back to his feet and won the ball inside the opposition box. The Chilean midfielder then picked out Pogba lurking with intent on the edge of the area, but a diving purple shirt blocked the Frenchman’s effort. Giovinco had an opportunity to put the icing on the cake in the dying stages, but failed to connect with a right footed volley after Peluso’s teasing delivery from the left.

Serie A Matchday 23 Chievo Verona 1-2 Juventus @ Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi Chievo Verona:Cyril Théréau 52 Juventus:Alessandro Matri 10,Stephan Lichtsteiner 42 Juve victorious in Verona(Juventus Official Website)
Juventus moved three points clear of Napoli at the summit of Serie A following a 2-1 victory over Chievo at the Stadio Bentegodi. Alessandro Matri put the visitors ahead after ten minutes via a spectacular volley and Stephan Lichtsteiner slotted home to double the advantage on the stroke of half time. Cyril Thereau gave the Gialloblu hope after the break, but the Bianconeri survived an early second half revival to register a richly deserved success which brought an end to Eugenio Corini’s unbeaten record on home soil. The visitors were in the driving seat in the early stages of the match and with just ten minutes on the clock, Vidal and Matri combined brilliantly to open the scoring. The Chilean midfielder picked the ball up just outside the opposition box and floated in a sublime pass over the defence. Matri gained a few crucial yards of space after ghosting in behind his marker and then slammed home a powerful left-footed volley. Chievo did have chances in the half to equalise, Buffon was called into action after 31 minutes and had to be alert to rush out and put in a slide tackle against Paloschi after an effective counter-attack from the hosts. However, their best opportunity stemmed from a sustained spell of pressure which culminated in an effort from Paloschi, who was denied at the near post by Buffon. The Bianconeri also had several opportunities to double their advantage. Matri combined with Giovinco, who got in behind the defence but saw his right-footed effort roll wide of the far post. Minutes later, a cunning free kick from Pirlo caught the Gialloblu defence unawares as he set up Vidal for a volley, but the Chilean’s shot was thwarted by a deflection which took the ball behind for a corner. Juve doubled the advantage just before the interval thanks to more great combination play from the all-italian strike partnership. Matri squared a pass back to Giovinco, who took control and laid a clever backheel to Lichtsteiner. The Swiss full back then steadied himself before unleashing a powerful strike which flew past Puggioni. Corini looked to change things up for the hosts at half time via a double substitution in an attempt to find a way back into the game. The Gialloblu began the second half in the ascendency and saw their efforts rewarded within seven minutes of the restart. Thereau put the hosts back in the contest as he charged into the box to pounce on a loose clearance, bundling the ball past Buffon with the aid of a slight deflection. In the aftermath of the goal, Juve seemed to spark back to life and immediately strived to re-establish their two goal cushion. Pirlo was pulling the strings in the middle of the park, while Pogba and De Ceglie were causing Corini’s men a whole host of problems with their maurauding runs into space. The most notable opporunity of the half came from Pogba who attempted an acrobatic flick from De Ceglie’s cross. The Frenchman’s effort took a deflection and dropped just wide of the post. Juventus were unable to break through the hosts’ rearguard in the second half but nevertheless ended the encounter in the driving seat and calmly saw out a 2-1 victory. The triumph breathes new life into the Bianconeri’s title defence ahead of a testing run of fixtures which resumes with next Saturday’s visit of Fiorentina.
