Serie A Matchday 30 Internazionale Milano 1-2 Juventus @ Giuseppe Meazza Internazionale Milano:Rodrigo Sebastián Palacio 54 Juventus:Fabio Quagliarella 3,Alessandro Matri 60, Quagliarella and Matri silence the San Siro(Juventus Official Website)
Juventus strengthened their grip on pole position with this afternoon’s fine 2-1 Derby d’Italia victory over historic rivals Inter at the San Siro. Antonio Conte’s men produced a mature display from start to finish and immediately had their hosts on the back foot after Fabio Quagliarella curled home a sensational effort with just three minutes played. Inter rallied after the interval and got back on level terms when Rodrigo Palacio latched on to Antonio Cassano’s slide-rule pass before tucking the ball neatly past the advancing Gianluigi Buffon on 54 minutes . But the Bianconeri refused to let their heads drop and saw their persistence rewarded when Quagliarella cut back for Alessandro Matri to slam past Samir Handanovic and guarantee a repeat of last year’s 2-1 scoreline. Revenge was very much at the top of the agenda in the build-up to the 190th Derby d’Italia, with Inter the side to have ended the Bianconeri’s unbeaten run when the teams last locked horns in September. And Conte’s men made their intentions perfectly clear by taking the lead inside the opening three minutes through Quagliarella’s blockbuster finish. After finding himself in space on the edge of the area, the striker, recalled to the side as one of three changes from the 2-0 win over Bologna, guided a magnificent shot into the top corner that left Handanovic rooted to the spot. The early goal sparked the hosts into action and the Bianconeri had Buffon to thank for producing two excellent saves in as many minutes. Having thrown himself down low to tip Cassano’s drive wide of the target on 12 minutes, the goalkeeper then clawed Palacio’s glancing header off the line when the striker looked odds-on to draw Inter level. Yet the Bianconeri, led by a masterful Andrea Pirlo in the centre of the park, continued to resist Nerazzurri pressure before looking to extend their lead with well-orchestrated forays into the final third. Pirlo’s exquisite passing ability sent Arturo Vidal racing through on goal shortly before the half-hour mark, only for the Chilean to be denied by Handanovic’s quick reactions. And the goalkeeper again earned his stripes five minutes ahead of the interval, getting down to thwart Pirlo’s powerful 20-yard drive at his near post. Inter returned for the second half with a reinvigorated approach and grabbed the equaliser their increased endeavour merited when Palacio gathered Cassano’s pass before steering the ball into the far corner for his tenth Serie A strike of the current campaign. Refusing to surrender to Inter’s momentary supremacy, Juventus regained their grip on midfield and restored their lead on the hour, with Matri notching a typical poacher’s goal following good work from Quagliarella. Bolstered by the introductions of Federico Peluso, Paul Pogba and Sebastian Giovinco in place of Kwadwo Asamoah, Matri and Quagliarella, Conte’s troops sought to protect their lead and managed to see out a late Inter onslaught which saw Handanovic sent forward for a series of corners and free-kicks. A late red card for Esteban Cambiasso following a reckless lunge on Giovinco threatened to sour a contest played in good spirit, but Conte succeeded in restoring calm to the situation before joining his players to celebrate an important victory in front of a jubilant travelling faithful. Juventus will now turn their attentions to Tuesday night’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich, with confidence sky high after another test was passed with flying colours.

Serie A Matchday 29 Bologna 0-2 Juventus @ Stadio Dall'Ara Juventus:Mirko Vučinić 61,Claudio Marchisio 73 Commanding Juve victorious in Bologna(Juvetus Official Website)
Goals from Mirko Vucinic and Claudio Marchisio enabled the Bianconeri to extend their lead at the top of the table to 12 points with tonight’s convincing 2-0 win over Bologna. Antonio Conte’s men were dominant throughout and eventually found the breakthrough their attacking play merited on the hour mark, with Vucinic slotting home from close range for his second goal in as many years at the Stadio Dall’Ara. And the points were made safe when Marchisio collected Vucinic’s precise through pass and guided the ball inside the far post to spark scenes of jubilation from the travelling faithful. Despite starting the brighter of the two sides in an intense opening to the affair, Juventus, featuring three changes from last Sunday’s success over Catania, suffered an early scare when Gilardino sprung the offside trap to race one-on-one with Buffon with just six minutes played. The goalkeeper, however, was swift off his line to dispossess the forward before Diamanti cleared the crossbar with his wayward follow-up. The Bianconeri soon began to impose their traditional passing style and created their first chance of the game when Giovinco bundled his way through a pack of defenders before drawing a low stop from Curci on 16 minutes. Two minutes later it was Vidal’s turn to try his luck on goal, only for the Chilean midfielder to blaze his effort over the crossbar after good build-up play from Vucinic. As the half wore on, Juventus upped their dominance in the attacking third and went a whisker away from taking the lead when Padoin’s inviting low cross was scrambled clear from a lurking Vucinic on 35 minutes. With half time looming, a promising counter-attack orchestrated by Giovinco saw the ball played into the path of the onrushing Vidal, who will feel he should have done better with a strong right-footed effort that arrowed over the crossbar. The Bianconeri burst out of the traps at the start of the second half and Giovinco almost found the breakthrough with a curling effort from inside the area that flashed just wide of Curci’s despairing dive. But the hosts, who approached the game on the back of a three-match winning run, responded positively and thought they had taken the lead when Gilardino rose highest in the box to plant a firm header past Buffon, only for the striker to see his effort ruled out by the linesman’s raised flag. With the game stretched as both sides sensed the opportunity to take the initiative, Juventus raced forward with intent and Giovinco drew a strong block from Curci after escaping the attentions of Cherubin on the edge of the area. Having staved off Bologna’s attempts to wrestle their way back into the encounter with a combative approach in midfield, the visitors found the opener their increased pressure deserved when Vucinic collected Marchisio’s pass before turning brilliantly and lashing an unstoppable low drive beyond Curci just past the hour mark. Any fears of a Rossoblu fightback were quelled 13 minutes later as goalscorer turned provider by springing the offside trap with a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Marchisio, who kept his cool to tuck the ball into the bottom corner and take the Bianconeri one step closer to reclaiming last season’s Scudetto title. BOLOGNA 0-2 JUVENTUS GOALS: Vucinic 62, Marchisio 74 BOLOGNA Curci; Garics (Christodoulopoulos 69), Antonsson, Cherubin, Morleo; Perez, Taider; Kone (Naldo 58), Diamanti, Gabbiadini; Gilardino.

UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals draw

UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals draw Barcelona tackle PSG, Bayern meet Juventus(uefa.com)
Zlatan Ibrahimović will return to FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals with Paris Saint-Germain FC while 2012 runners-up FC Bayern München were drawn to play Juventus. Paris Saint-Germain FC striker Zlatan Ibrahimović will renew acquaintances with former club FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals following the draw in Nyon today. Quarter-final draw Málaga CF (ESP) v Borussia Dortmund (GER) Real Madrid CF (ESP) v Galatasaray AŞ (TUR) Paris Saint-Germain FC (FRA) v FC Barcelona (ESP) FC Bayern München (GER) v Juventus (ITA) Ties take place on 2/3 and 9/10 April. Ibrahimović – scorer of 21 goals in his sole season with the Blaugrana, 2009/10 – will return to the Camp Nou for the second leg on 10 April. PSG are among Europe's elite eight clubs for the first time since 1995, when they defeated Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate at this juncture before losing to AC Milan in the semi-finals. Barcelona's Liga rivals, nine-time European champions Madrid, were paired with Galatasaray AŞ in what will be an emotive tie for ex-Merengues players Hamit Altıntop and Wesley Sneijder. The Istanbul outfit will hope for a different outcome from that of the teams' last meeting in 2001, the last time Cimbom graced this stage. On that occasion, Madrid overturned a 3-2 first-leg deficit with a 3-0 home victory in the return. Serie A leaders Juventus, meanwhile, will tackle 2012 runners-up FC Bayern München. The clubs last encountered one another in the group stage three seasons ago, the German side following up a goalless draw in Bavaria by triumphing 4-1 in Turin on matchday six. Debutants Málaga CF, the first team drawn by final ambassador Steve McManaman, will play Borussia Dortmund. The draw for the semi-finals will be made in Nyon on 12 April, with the showpiece at Wembley Stadium on 25 May.

Serie A Matchday 28 Juventus 1-0 Catania @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Emanuele Giaccherini 91 Late Giaccherini strike extends Juve supremacy(Juventus Official Website)
An injury-time Emanuele Giaccherini strike shattered Catania’s resolve to send Juventus nine points clear of second-placed Napoli at the top of Serie A. Antonio Conte’s men were good value for the three points after dominating for large spells of the encounter. But it appeared the spirited Sicilians were set to leave with a share of the spoils after repelling wave after wave of Bianconeri attacks. Yet with news filtering through of Napoli trailing 2-0 at Chievo, Conte went for broke with three ambitious second-half changes that eventually tipped the pendulum in the hosts’ favour as Giaccherini bundled the ball home with seconds to spare. The loyal Bianconeri following, basking in glorious spring sunshine at Juventus Stadium, answered Conte’s pre-match pleas for a vocal atmosphere and urged the hosts forward from the first shrill of Giannoccaro’s whistle. And Juventus, featuring six changes from the side that overcame Celtic on Wednesday night, responded in kind by making instant inroads into the visitors’ half through slick passing and intricate movement. The first chance of the encounter fell to Pogba on seven minutes, with the French midfielder inches away from making a clean connection with Pirlo’s inswinging free-kick that crept invitingly towards the back post. Continuing to press forward with intent, Juve almost took the lead when Vucinic spun clear of his marker and unleashed a 25-yard shot from outside of the area which had Andujar sprawling to his right to parry clear. But for all their endeavour and good movement in the opening half hour, the Bianconeri laboured to expose a Catania outfit determined to maintain the strict counter-attacking principles that have led them to harbor hopes of a European finish. The visitors, who were largely restricted to speculative efforts from Gomez, Lodi and Marchese, almost fell behind on the half-hour mark when Marchisio wriggled free of a crowd of players before rolling a right-footed shot just wide of the upright. And Maran’s men were left to breathe a sigh of relief moments later when Vucinic threatened to punish a defensive mix-up by regaining possession in the penalty area, only to see his shot on the turn cannon agonisingly back off the woodwork. Fresh from Conte’s half-time words of encouragement, Juventus emerged for the restart with an added spring in their step. The increased momentum filtered through to the fans who were soon on their feet for Pogba’s trademark 30-yard blockbuster that stung the fingertips of Andujar on 52 minutes. Despite the Bianconeri’s strong command of possession throughout, Catania grew in confidence as the half wore on and Castro will feel he should have done better with his long-range attempt that passed wide of the target. But the hosts stuck diligently to their task and almost found the goal their efforts deserved when Pirlo’s direct free-kick was deflected into the path of Marchisio who turned his follow-up narrowly wide of the target. Bolstered by the introductions of Matri, Giaccherini and Quagliarella at varying stages of the second half, Juventus cranked up the pressure on Catania’s stubborn defence. A late Giaccherini forage into the area drew vociferous penalty appeals that fell on deaf ears, with Giannoccaro ordering the midfielder to his feet before brandishing the yellow card. But the former Cesena man had the last laugh as he latched on to a loose ball in the area before ramming home to snatch victory at the death. The Bianconeri’s never-say-die attitude was out in full force this afternoon as they dug deep to grind out a victory that could have a significant bearing on the destiny of this year’s Scudetto.

UEFA Champions League Round of 16 2nd leg. Juventus 2-0(agg:5-0) Celtic @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Alessandro Matri 24,Fabio Quagliarella 65 Juventus cruise to Celtic victory(uefa.com)
Juventus 2-0 Celtic FC (agg: 5-0) A goal in each half by Alessandro Matri and Fabio Quagliarella sealed a comfortable win that took Juve into the last eight for the first time since 2006. Alessandro Matri and Fabio Quagliarella scored in each half as Juventus beat Celtic FC 2-0 to qualify for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals with a convincing 5-0 round of 16 aggregate triumph. Juventus, who have not conceded a goal in the competition since matchday three, had already done most of the work in the first leg when they won 3-0 at Celtic Park, a result that allowed coach Antonio Conte to rest several players. Celtic tried to mount an unlikely comeback but fell behind on the night to an opportunistic Matri strike on 24 minutes before Juve doubled their lead 20 minutes into the second half. Quagliarella rounded off a nice team move to complete a victory that takes them into the last eight for the first time since 2005/06. In heavy rain both sides struggled to create serious opportunities in the early stages, the first attempt coming after 21 minutes when Joe Ledley's left-footed strike from 25 metres whistled centimetres wide of Gianluigi Buffon's top corner. Three minutes later Juve were more accurate with their own first attempt, Fraser Forster only parrying Quagliarella's low shot and Matri quick to pounce on the rebound to put the Bianconeri in front. Only a great Buffon save prevented Celtic responding immediately after Gary Hooper diverted Kris Commons's low drive, forcing the wrong-footed Bianconeri goalkeeper to acrobatically twist to his left and palm away. At the other end Arturo Vidal blazed over from a good position after a counterattack led by Quagliarella. Ten minutes before the interval Celtic were again close to an equaliser as Giorgos Samaras finished a good run down the left with a low cross-shot which flashed narrowly wide at the far post, Hooper just failing to make contact. Juventus, however, continued to look the likelier scorers and threatened another goal soon after the break, Quagliarella forcing Forster into a difficult stop after a nice back-heeled pass by Matri. Visiting manager Neil Lennon lost Adam Matthews to an injury shortly after, replacing him with James Forrest. Celtic's reshuffled back line were exposed again five minutes past the hour, a trademark Andrea Pirlo pass picking out Vidal in behind the defence; the Chile midfielder chested down and squared for Quagliarella to roll into the empty net. Samaras had a chance to give Celtic the last word but fired over from a good position with seven minutes remaining. Juve therefore reach the quarter-finals on a streak of five consecutive wins without conceding – and will be aiming for the last four for the first time in ten years.

Serie A Matchday 27 Napoli 1-1 Juventus @ San Paolo Napoli:Gökhan Inler 43 Juvwntus:Giorgio Chiellini 10 Resilient Juve share spoils in Naples(Juventus Official Website)
The Bianconeri maintained their six-point lead at the top of Serie A after a determined display sealed a share of the spoils in this evening’s 1-1 draw against Napoli at the San Paolo. The much heralded Friday showdown was always destined to be an intriguing affair and the encounter certainly lived up to its billing as both Scudetto contenders set about each other with a steely determination throughout an intense 90 minutes. Giorgio Chiellini marked his return to the starting line-up with a superb headed goal to put the visitors in front after ten minutes, while Gokhan Inler’s deflected long-range drive shortly before the break ensured both sides would end the night with a point apiece. Juventus survived an early scare as the hosts threatened to break the deadlock in a frantic opening to the encounter. Pandev, one of three changes made by Mazzarri from Monday’s goalless draw with Udinese, wriggled into space down the right flank and pulled the ball back into the path of Hamsik, only for the Slovakian playmaker to lash a hurried attempt over the crossbar. The Bianconeri soon clicked into gear and began to stamp their authority on the game with some neat exchanges in midfield. Giovinco was the first to try his luck, with De Sanctis proving equal to his crisply struck shot from just inside the area on eight minutes. But it proved to be a sign of things for come as the visitors took a deserved lead just two minutes later. Pirlo’s teasing delivery picked out the imposing figure of Chiellini lurking at the back post, and the defender celebrated his first start since December by planting a powerful header past De Sanctis. The early goal opened the game up as a contest and forced Napoli to show greater ambition in their quest to restore parity. Yet Juventus will feel they should have doubled their advantage when a speculative punt forward caught Napoli outnumbered in defence. Giovinco unselfishly slipped the ball into the path of Vucinic, but the Montenegrin saw his close-range effort thwarted by the outstretched frame of De Sanctis. The strike pairing again combined on 32 minutes after Vidal had capitalised on hesitation in the middle of the park to win possession back in Juve’s favour. Giovinco’s slide-rule pass was inch perfect for Vucinic, but his first touch was heavy and allowed De Sanctis to usher the ball behind for a goal-kick. Napoli piled bodies forward as the first half wore on and had Bianconeri hearts fluttering when the ball fell to Hamsik on the edge of the area. However, the league’s most stubborn rearguard held firm and took the sting out of the shot before it made its way through for Buffon to gather comfortably at his near post. But just when the Bianconeri appeared to have weathered the storm, the hosts pulled themselves back on level terms with two minutes of the first half remaining. Zuniga cut the ball back inside for Inler, who saw his 25-yard strike take a wicked deflection off Bonucci before arrowing past the despairing dive of Buffon. Tempers threatened to boil over as a feisty opening 45 minutes at the San Paolo drew to a close, prompting Orsato to issue Cavani with a yellow card after Serie A’s top marksman appeared to strike Chiellini with his elbow. The second half began with both teams feeling each other out as neither could muster a clear-cut opportunity in the early stages. And ill-timed challenges from Behrami and Cannavaro, both of whom were subsequently shown the yellow card, ensured the temperature continued to rise in the heat of the battle. Urged forward by a passionate capacity crowd at the San Paolo, Napoli soon began to seize the initiative, calling Buffon into action courtesy of efforts from Hamsik and Inler, before finding their route to goal blocked by several last ditch interventions as Conte’s men dropped back in numbers. Vucinic brought a brief moment of respite with a long-range snap shot that was parried clear by De Sanctis on 67 minutes, but the Bianconeri were forced to repel more one-way traffic when Maggio’s shot from an acute angle was turned behind by Buffon. And the visitors again had Buffon to thank as Napoli went a whisker away from going in front after creating two gilt-edged chances in as many minutes. First, Cavani angled Maggio’s inviting cross straight at the goalkeeper, then, after Hamsik saw his rasping drive from deep saved, Dzemaili thrashed his follow up wide when he looked odds on to score. With Juve having to ride out a heavy spell of pressure, Conte looked to provide support by introducing the fresh legs of Matri, Padoin and Pogba in place of Giovinco, Marchisio and Vucinic at varying stages of the second half. And the substitutes’ introduction had the desired impact as the Bianconeri regained their grip on the midfield and held firm to claim a hard-earned point. Conte will have every reason to be pleased with the resolute display of his side in challenging circumstances at the San Paolo and will now focus attentions on guaranteeing a Champions League quarter-final spot when Celtic travel to Turin on Wednesday night.
