Serie A Matchday 22 Juventus 1-1 Genoa @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Fabio Quagliarella 54 Genoa:Marco Borriello 68 Honours even against Genoa(Juventus Official Website)
The Bianconeri were forced to settle for a point despite producing a dominant performance in this evening’s 1-1 draw with Genoa at Juventus Stadium. Antonio Conte’s men deservedly took the lead in the 64th minute when Fabio Quagliarella found himself perfectly placed to turn Stephan Lichtsteiner’s cross home following good work from Mirko Vucinic. But the visitors drew level after Marco Borriello came off the bench to haunt his former employers with a headed equaliser midway through the second period. In a relatively sedate first half, Genoa were presented with some early half-chances. In fact, Buffon was called into action after just four minutes when an under pressure Immobile steered a header towards the top corner. The first clear cut chances for Juve came in very quick succession. Bonucci floated in a threatening long ball over the defence from the centre circle to the unmarked Vidal. The Chilean midfielder elected to control the pass which gave a Rossoblu shirt time to catch up and turn the ball behind for a corner. The set piece presented another opportunity, which fell to Caceres, whose powerful right-footed effort whistled narrowly over the bar from close range. After 22 minutes, Pogba found himself with space in the midfield. With the crowd calling for a long range shot, the midfielder instead elected to dink a pass into the path of Marchisio who connected with it fractionally outside the six-yard-box but saw his effort pass wide of the mark. The Bianconeri earned a free kick just minutes later, in prime position for a right footer. In the absence of Pirlo and Giovinco, Vidal stepped up to take and let loose a dipping shot which passed just over the top corner. Just before the interval, a cross was whipped in from the right flank towards Quagliarella. The Italian international shrugged off pressure from the central defenders and stretched out a hopeful right leg, only to see his effort roll just wide of the target. The home side began to really assert themselves in a lively start to the second period and broke the deadlock with 54 miniuteson the clock. The combination of fantastic vision from Vucinic and a perfectly timed run and pass from Lichsteiner laid the chance on a plate for Quagliarella. With the aid of a deflection, the frontman turned it in to celebrate his return to the starting XI. New Genoa manager Ballardini attempted to shake things up after the goal and used his three permitted changes by the 65th minute. The substitutions paid dividends as Borriello nodded home a threatening delivery from Kucka, just ten minutes after coming on. The final 15 minutes were certainly not without incident as the Bianconeri swarmed forward in numbers in search of an equaliser. Lichtsteiner had his low shot well saved in a good spell of pressure from the Bianconeri. Shortly after, Giovinco nearly emulated his effort against AC Milan from a set piece as the ball struck the upright with the keeper well beaten. With Genoa entrenched deep in their own half, Conte threw caution to the wind in pursuit of a winner. Ten minutes from time, he elected to hand Primavera youngster Beltrame a first-team debut. The newest member of the three-pronged attack unleashed a well-struck effort towards goal but the diving Frey was on hand to beat the ball out of harm’s way. Even after 90 minutes, the action was not over and Genoa’s keeper was called into action on another two occasions in stoppage time as he saved late attempts from Bonucci and Giaccherini. The game ended in controversy as Juventus were denied what appeared to be a clear penalty after Granqvist handled in the box. Despite vociferous protests from players and fans, the appeals fell on deaf ears, leaving the Bianconeri with a share of the spoils on a disappointing night in Turin. FOURTH OFFICIAL: Altomare

Serie A Matchday 21 Juventus 4-0 Udinese @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Paul Pogba 41,66,Mirko Vučinić 72,Alessandro Matri 80 Juventus run riot over Udinese(Juventus Official Website)
A rampant Juventus extended their lead at the summit of Serie A to five points courtesy of a resounding 4-0 home victory over Udinese. Antonio Conte’s men were dominant throughout and eventually made their pressure count when Paul Pogba lashed home a sensational strike shortly before half time. The Frenchman doubled the hosts’ lead midway through the second half with another long-range gem, before further efforts from Mirko Vucinic and substitute Alessandro Matri sealed a richly deserved success in the closing stages. The Bianconeri started the game on the front foot and could have taken the lead through Vucinic as early as the first minute. The best chance of the opening exchanges fell to Giaccherini after an efficient counter-attack saw him in behind the away side’s back line, but the midfielder’s effort was thwarted by the outstretched leg of Padelli. Conte’s side eventually seized the advantage through an individual moment of brilliance from Pogba in the 41st minute. Picking the ball up in space in midfield, the Frenchman let fly with a thunderous effort which rattled the underside of the woodwork before nestling in the back of the net. The second half began with Udinese managing to string together some promising attacks but Juventus were still very much in the driving seat. Giaccherini nearly worked himself into a great position but saw his tame shot comfortably gathered by the Udinese shotstopper. In their time of need, Guidolin threw veteran striker Di Natale into the fray as he sought to turn things around. With 63 minutes on the clock, a great chance presented itself to Vidal, who failed to get his shot off in time. Minutes later, Pogba shrugged off two Udinese players to work himself into space outside the box. Udinese invited the shot and the 19 year old obliged, driving a low attempt past the keeper and into the bottom corner from 25 yards out. The Bianconeri put the result beyond doubt in the 71st minute, a short corner routine was finished off by Vucinic after his effort squeezed past the keeper via a deflection off Herteaux. The Zebrette nearly fashioned an immediate response when Di Natale produced a snapshot from just outside the 18 yard box, but his effort flashed wide. With just ten minutes remaining, Padelli was forced to collect the ball from the back of his net once again. Running onto Vucinic’s superb chipped through pass, Matri put the icing on the cake, slotting clinically through the legs of the onrushing keeper after beating the offside trap. It was a convincing performance from start to finish for the home side. They were in control from the off and following a frustrating first half, three goals after the hour mark gave the crowd plenty to cheer about on a cold night in Turin. A draw earlier in the day for Lazio enabled the Bianconeri to open up a five point advantage at the top of the table.

Serie A Matchday 20 Parma 1-1 Juventus @ Ennio Tardini Parma:Nicola Sansone 77 Juventus:Andrea Pirlo 52 Bianconeri held at the Tardini(Juventus Official Website)
Following the energy-sapping extra-time triumph against Milan in midweek, Antonio Conte’s men were unable to hang on to their 1-0 lead at Parma. Andrea Pirlo put the visitors ahead early in the second half via a deflected free-kick before Nicola Sansone equalised after coming off the bench. The game began with a relatively even opening period where both sides were largely limited to long range efforts. The best opportunity of the initial exchanges fell to Belfodil who worked himself into a promising position on 20 minutes after rounding a flat-footed Caceres, but he pushed his shot wide of the post. The most notable early chance for the Bianconeri was created by Quagliarella, who won the ball deep in enemy territory and laid it off to Pogba who attempted a curling effort which flashed just wide of the top corner. The game sparked into life in the latter stages of the first half, with Juventus in particular threatening to break the deadlock. Quagliarella had a couple of efforts from distance early on before he found himself in the opposition box one-on-one with Mirante who did well to rush quickly and narrow the angle. The Parma shot-stopper also thwarted an effort from Lichtsteiner after he latched onto a low cross from Giovinco. Parma were also looking dangerous through Valdes and Belfodil, who gave Caceres plenty to think about on Juve’s left side of defence. A strong counter-attack saw a shot from Belfodil blocked by some good last-ditch defending with Buffon looking beaten. Pirlo reclaimed his starting role in the middle of the park and resumed free kick duties in place of his deputy Giovinco. In the first half, the Italian international saw a venomous curler heading for the top corner only to be denied by the outstretched hand of Mirante. However with 51 minutes on the clock, Pirlo made amends by netting for the fifth time from set plays in this campaign, slamming home a free-kick with the aid of a deflection. Space began to open up for the Bianconeri as Parma pressed for the equaliser. Conte’s men, however, failed to take advantage and were duly punished in the 77th minute. After capitalising on a moment's hesitation in midfield, Paletta threaded a pass into the path of substitute Sansone who slotted his shot past Buffon and into the bottom corner to put Donadoni’s side back on terms. Juventus threw caution to the wind in an attempt to restore their advantage in the dying stages but were unable to find the winner. The away draw, coupled with Lazio’s 2-0 home victory over Atalanta, cuts the Bianconeri’s lead at the top of the table to three points.

Coppa Italia Tim Cup Quarter-finals Juventus 2-1(a.e.x.) Milan @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Sebastian Giovinco 12,Mirko Vučinić 95 Milan:Stephan El Shaarawy 6 Vucinic sinks Milan in extra-time(Juventus Official Website)
For the second season in a row, Juventus and Milan couldn’t be separated over 90 minutes and once again Antonio Conte’s men came out on top thanks to a Mirko Vucinic goal early in extra-time. Milan had the better of the opening exchanges, the skipper Ambrosini had a shot well tipped over by Storari. Shortly after, Juventus were exposed on the right side of defence and Boateng squared the ball back into the path of the in-form El Shaarawy, who powered it into the bottom corner with just six minutes on the clock. However, the Bianconeri responded strongly. Matri saw his header flash just wide of the post and then Acerbi was forced to concede a free-kick in dangerous territory. Giovinco stepped up to take and he curved it beautifully into the top left corner to bring Juventus back on terms after 12 minutes. Milan continued to give away free-kicks in inviting positions and Giovinco nearly put Juventus in front when his third set piece of the night was heading for the same top corner, only to be denied by the outstretched fingertips of Amelia. On the 32 minute mark, Juventus had their best chance from open play in the first half when Giovinco flashed wide of the post after pouncing well on a defensive slip up from Acerbi. However, against the run of play, Juventus experienced a nervy moment in defence late on in the half when El Shaarawy almost capitalised on Storari’s wayward clearance. While the Bianconeri had the better of the second half, it was a cagier affair with few clear cut chances. The hosts nearly broke through when Giovinco threaded a well timed pass to find Lichtsteiner’s run behind the Milan defence. Despite the two managers’ best efforts to open up the game with positive substitutions, which included the introduction of the recovering Vucinic, the affair seemed destined for extra-time. Just as last year, Juve went ahead in extra-time when Giaccherini’s raking pass was prodded into the path of Vucinic by De Ceglie, with the Montenegrin guiding the ball past the advancing Amelia. For much of extra-time it seemed like Juve would coast to victory with Milan looking beaten. The hosts missed a couple of great chances to put the game to bed, Isla was denied from point blank range and Giaccherini miscontrolled at the vital moment after an exquisite pass from Vucinic. The dying stages were not without anxious moments for the Bianconeri defence who at times struggled against the youthful attacking trio of Niang, Bojan and El Shaarawy. There were good opportunities for both Niang and El Shaarawy before Milan’s best chance fell to Traore, with Juventus happy to see his volley struck straight at a grateful Storari. This victory sets Juventus up with a two legged semi-final against Lazio, with the first encounter to be played in Rome on 22 January. Serie A Matchday 19 Juventus 1-2 Sampdoria @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Sebastian Giovinco 24(r) Sampdoria:Mauro Icardi 52,69 Sampdoria claim the points in Turin(Juventus Official Website)
The Bianconeri were left to rue their misfortune as Sampdoria emerged victorious from the first fixture of 2013 at Juventus Stadium. Antonio Conte’s men controlled the game from start to finish but were punished by two breakaway goals after having taken a deserved first-half lead through Sebastian Giovinco’s penalty. Juventus began brightly and carved out their first goalscoring opportunity inside the opening five minutes, with Giovinco a whisker away from diverting De Ceglie’s teasing cross past Romero. Yet Sampdoria, who approached the game on the back of three consecutive defeats, proved they weren’t just in Turin to make up the numbers when Poli drilled in a low attempt which was thwarted by Buffon’s diving save on 18 minutes. Two minutes later, however, the Bianconeri were almost in front. Giovinco showed good skill to evade the attentions of his marker and rifle in a shot on the turn, forcing Romero into a fine one-handed stop. As Juventus continued to press forward in search of an opening, their dominance was finally rewarded when Marchisio broke into the box with a trademark burst from midfield and was scythed down by Berardi’s clumsy challenge. Valeri showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot, leaving Giovinco to do the rest with a crisp finish into the bottom corner from 12 yards. Inspired by their lead, Conte’s men went inches away from extending their advantage on the half-hour mark. Matri swiveled in a crowded penalty area and prodded the ball goalwards, only for Romero to successfully prevent the former Cagliari frontman’s effort from crossing the line. Now up against a relentless Bianconeri onslaught, Sampdoria’s task appeared even more arduous when Berardi was handed his second yellow following a crude lunge on Barzagli. Having used the interval to regroup, Rossi’s charges clawed their way back into the encounter on 52 minutes. A speculative long punt forward found its way to Icardi, and the striker saw his first-time attempt squirm out of Buffon’s grasp and bounce over the line. In an effort to tip the balance back in the Bianconeri’s favour, Conte freshened up his strikeforce by introducing Vucinic and Quagliarella in place of De Ceglie and Matri. But despite the hosts gaining increased potency in attack, Sampdoria continued to remain a threat on the break and almost took the lead through efforts from Poli and Eder. Their counter-attacking approach eventually paid off shortly afterwards as Icardi silenced Juventus Stadium by fizzing a fierce attempt into the roof of the net from a seemingly impossible angle. It appeared destined to be one of those days for Juventus, who went agonisingly close to gaining the equaliser their efforts more than merited when Vucinic rattled the crossbar from inside the area on 73 minutes. However, following four minutes of added time and a host of frantic attempts to restore parity, Valeri blew his whistle to condemn the Bianconeri to their third defeat of the season. Conte’s men remain top of Serie A with a five-point lead and will look to return to winning ways when Milan travel to Turin for Wednesday night’s Coppa Italia quarter-final showdown. SENT OFF: Berardi 32
