Serie A Matchday 34 Torino 0-2 Juventus @ Stadio Olimpico di Torino Juventus:Arturo Erasmo Vidal 86,Claudio Marchisio 90+2 Late Juve show completes derby double(Juventus Official Website)
Late goals from Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio enabled the Bianconeri to complete a seasonal derby double over inter-city rivals Torino with this afternoon’s 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico. Both teams played their part in an entertaining battle contested in difficult conditions, but Antonio Conte’s men eventually made the gulf in class tell to earn a victory that takes them to within a point of claiming the club’s 31st Scudetto title. With the game seemingly heading towards a draw following a hotly contested 86 minutes, Vidal silenced the home faithful with a thunderous strike outside the area that left Gillet with no chance. And Turin-born Marchisio put the final outcome beyond any doubt in stoppage time, lashing home from close range after connecting with Fabio Quagliarella’s unselfish header across the face of goal. Conte named an unchanged line-up for the third successive fixture, with Marchisio again reprising his free role behind lone striker Mirko Vucinic. A vociferous crowd at the Stadio Olimpico was treated to a typical derby opening to proceedings as both sides attempted to seize control of the midfield battle with some feisty exchanges in the driving rain. The first opportunity of the affair fell to the feet of Vucinic after Paul Pogba’s magnificent slide-rule pass had sent him in behind Angelo Ogbonna and one-on-one with Jean-François Gillet. The Montenegrin, however, snatched at the chance and dragged his right-footed effort wide of the target. Juventus took heart from their early foray into Torino’s final third and cranked up the tempo in search of a breakthrough. Marchisio’s shot on the turn was beaten clear by Gillet on 17 minutes, while only Kamil Gilk’s last-ditch goal-line clearance prevented Pogba from opening the scoring just moments later. Having staved off a good spell of pressure from the visitors, Torino responded in kind and went back on the offensive. Conte had used his pre-match press conference to warn of the threat posed by wingers Alessio Cerci and Mario Santana – and it was the Granata duo who looked most likely to dent the Bianconeri’s run of seven derby days without conceding. After skipping past the challenge of Giorgio Chiellini with a purposeful dart down the right flank, Cerci whipped in a dangerous cross which drifted invitingly towards the head of Santana. Marchisio, however, read the situation to perfection and performed a crucial interception to nick the ball away from the Argentinean. Seconds later, Santana turned provider and swung in a teasing delivery which was headed just over the upright by Torino top scorer Rolando Bianchi. As the game became increasingly stretched, Stephan Lichtsteiner experienced plenty of joy down the right-hand side and was presented with an excellent opportunity to pull the trigger after being played into the box by Pogba on 29 minutes. The Swiss defender instead opted to cross and Torino succeeded in clearing the danger. Despite the conditions impeding the Bianconeri’s traditional slick passing approach, Conte’s men stuck to their principles and had the ball in the back of the net on 37 minutes following a neat combination between Vucinic and Marchisio, only for the latter to see his clipped effort ruled out for offside. But Torino refused to lie down and Santana almost had the home supporters on their feet moments before half time with a 25-yard curling attempt that drew a fine save from Gigi Buffon. The start of the second half brought more of the same as both sides sought to gain the upper hand in a congested midfield battle. Pirlo, kept on a tight leash throughout by man marker Riccardo Meggiorini, worked tirelessly to exert his influence on the affair and unlock the hosts’ determined rearguard. Despite the Bianconeri looking relatively comfortable throughout an evenly-matched second period, Torino almost snatched the lead with ten minutes remaining after Jonathas went a whisker away from turning Cerci’s menacing cross home. But Conte’s men were unrelenting in their approach and, after Pogba had spurned a late opportunity to seize the advantage, received their just rewards when Vidal netted his fourth goal in three games with an unstoppable effort that arrowed past Gillet’s despairing dive on 86 minutes. And local boy Marchisio put the icing on the cake in stoppage time, reacting quickest to substitute Quagliarella’s header across goal before slamming home with aplomb.

Serie A Matchday 33 Juventus 1-0 Milan @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Arturo Erasmo Vidal 57(r) Vidal penalty seals Juve triumph(Juventus Official Website)
Arturo Vidal’s emphatic second-half penalty was enough to settle a hotly-contested clash with Milan and edge the Bianconeri even closer to Scudetto glory. Clear cut chances were few and far between in an absorbing tactical battle of the Italian giants but Juventus made their golden opportunity count after Kwadwo Asamoah was sent tumbling in the box by Marco Amelia on 56 minutes. And having maintained his composure to convert in the lion’s den of Rome’s Stadio Olimpico on Monday night, Vidal made it two penalties in the space of six days with an unstoppable strike that gave Amelia no chance. Talk of revenge surrounded the pre-match build-up after the Rossoneri emerged victorious from this season’s first meeting of the sides at the San Siro. And the Bianconeri showed their determination to right the wrongs of November’s off-key display in Milan with an aggressive start to proceedings. The first noteworthy attempt on goal, however, fell to Stephan El Shaarawy, recalled to Allegri’s starting line-up after sitting out last week’s 1-1 draw with Napoli. The Azzurri forward pulled the trigger on five minutes, but found Gigi Buffon equal to his well-struck drive from outside the area. With the battle beginning to heat up, the next chance fell in favour of the hosts. Andrea Pirlo drew a fine stop from Christian Abbiati after his dipping free-kick clipped off the wall and careered menacingly towards the bottom corner. The Bianconeri, operating in the same 3-5-1-1 formation pioneered against Lazio, grew in confidence and began to stream forward with intent. Paul Pogba shot over from 30 yards on 11 minutes and was again in the thick of the action moments later, drawing appreciation from the crowd for an audacious bicycle kick which passed wide of the mark. Milan edged back into proceedings as the first half wore on but were largely restricted to speculative attempts from range. Massimo Ambrosini dragged a low shot wide of the target, while El Shaarawy’s effort on the half volley was comfortably gathered by Buffon. Their best opportunity of a combative first 45 minutes fell to the feet of Robinho, but the Brazilian forward could only find the side netting as he hooked Ignazio Abate’s low cross goalwards from an acute angle. In search of their sixth consecutive Serie A success, Juventus went back on the offensive and Mirko Vucinic will feel he should have done better after failing to trouble Amelia, on in place of the injured Abbiati, with a headed effort from just outside the six-yard box. The hosts emerged refreshed from the half-time break and almost broke the deadlock when Giorgio Chiellini rose highest in the box to meet Pirlo’s outswinging corner on 47 minutes, only for the recalled defender to see his bullet header flash fractionally over the crossbar. Ten minutes later, Juventus were ahead. Asamoah’s tenacity to retrieve a loose ball in the area resulted in the midfielder being sent to ground by Amelia’s clumsy challenge. Luca Banti pointed to the spot, and Vidal did the rest with an inch-perfect strike that arrowed into the top corner. The Bianconeri now had the bit between their teeth and pressed for a two-goal cushion. A flowing move involving Claudio Marchisio, Pirlo and Pogba crafted an inviting opportunity for Vucinic, with the Montenegrin frontman only prevented from extending the lead by Phillipe Mexes‘s impeccably timed last-ditch block. Allegri’s men, approaching the encounter off the back of a 14-match unbeaten run, upped the tempo in their quest for an equaliser. Half-time substitute Sulley Muntari, introduced to proceedings in place of Ambrosini, let fly with a vicious attempt from the edge of the box which Buffon succeeded in taking the sting out of. But Juventus drew on all their determination to ride out a late Milan surge and make their dreams of back-to-back title wins an ever increasing reality. The result sees Conte’s men regain their 11-point advantage at the top after Napoli momentarily reduced the gap with a stoppage time winner in this afternoon’s clash with Cagliari. And with inter-city rivals Torino next up, Juventus will be hoping to crown a magnificent season in style with a derby day win at the Stadio Olimpico.

Serie A Matchday 32 Lazio 0-2 Juventus @ Stadio Olimpico Juventus:Arturo Erasmo Vidal 8(r),28 Juve conquer the capital!(Juventus Official Website)
Juventus stretched their lead at the top of Serie A to 11 points following this evening’s convincing 2-0 victory over European-chasing Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Any fears of the visitors feeling the effects of Wednesday night’s Champions League elimination were swiftly allayed when Arturo Vidal converted from the spot with just nine minutes played. And the Chilean found himself in the right place at the right time to double the advantage 20 minutes later, showing plenty of composure to clip the ball over the advancing Federico Marchetti and strengthen the Bianconeri’s grip on a priceless three points. Despite the Bianconeri’s overall command on a memorable night in the capital, it was in fact Lazio who were quicker out the blocks during a lively start to the encounter. Hernanes had the first meaningful effort on goal with just three minutes played, drawing a diving save from Gigi Buffon who managed to prevent the ball from crossing the line for a corner. But Juventus saw off the early threat and neat combination play between Mirko Vucinic and Claudio Marchisio, deployed in an unorthodox advanced role for the evening, resulted in the Montenegrin being sent to ground by Lorik Cana’s misjudged challenge from behind. Referee Antonio Giannoccaro showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot, with Vidal stepping up to send Federico Marchetti the wrong way from 12 yards with nine minutes on the clock. With the early goal forcing Lazio to commit added bodies forward in an attempt to find a way back into the affair, Juventus soaked up the pressure and looked to inflict further damage on the counter. And they could have increased their lead when Vucinic turned Andrea Pirlo’s teasing free-kick goalwards with 20 minutes played, only for Marchetti to keep the ball from crossing the line with an instinctive block. The visitors’ grip on proceedings served to increase their levels of confidence and only a magnificent last-gasp challenge from Michael Ciani prevented Vidal from rounding off a flowing move on 28 minutes. But the Chilean only had to wait a minute before doubling his tally, capitalising on a loose ball in the area to lift a delicate finish over the advancing Marchetti and put the Bianconeri firmly in the driving seat shortly before the half-hour mark. Lazio’s makeshift rearguard struggled to find answers to Juventus’ enterprising movement in the final third and were almost picking the ball out of the net for the third time in quick succession after Marchisio’s neatly-placed strike was diverted wide for a corner by Cana’s late intervention. Conte’s men were ruthless in their approach and sought to heap further misery on their shell-shocked opponents ahead of the half-time whistle. After seeing his initial strike from the edge of the area foiled by Marchetti, Paul Pogba went a whisker away from guiding Stephan Lichtsteiner’s teasing right-sided delivery inside the far post. Faced with a mountain to climb following his side’s below par first-half display, Lazio boss Vladimir Petkovic opted to shuffle his pack at the interval, introducing Ederson and Libor Kozak at the expense of Stefano Mauri and Hernanes. And the new arrivals succeeded in breathing new life into the hosts, with Juventus having Gigi Buffon to thank for maintaining their two-goal cushion following a superb save from Ciani’s bullet header at the near post. Yet the Bianconeri kept plugging away and should have been home and dry when Marchisio reacted quickest to Pirlo’s parried free-kick on 55 minutes, only for the midfielder to send his follow-up over the crossbar with the goal gaping. Conte elected to shuffle his pack at differing points throughout the second period, sacrificing Lichtsteiner, Vucinic and Marchisio for Simone Padoin, Fabio Quagliarella and Emanuele Giaccherini. But despite an improved second-half performance from the hosts, Juventus managed to weather a late flurry of chances to record this season’s first victory over the Biancocelesti at the fourth time of asking. The result, coupled with last night’s draw between nearest Scudetto challengers Napoli and Milan, enables the Bianconeri to boost their lead at the summit of Serie A and take another significant step towards reclaiming last season’s title. UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals 2nd leg. Juventus 0-2(agg:0-4) Bayern München @ Juventus Stadium Bayern München:Mario Mandžukić 64,Claudio Pizarro 90+1 Confident Bayern complete Juventus job(uefa.com)
Juventus 0-2 FC Bayern München (agg: 0-4) Mario Mandžukić banished any lingering doubt about the outcome of the tie before Claudio Pizarro sealed Bayern's progress in added time. Second-half goals by Mario Mandžukić and Claudio Pizarro enabled FC Bayern München to defeat Juventus 2-0 for the second time in eight days and reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. The German title winners dealt capably with the threat of a willing Juventus side in the first half, and soon after Arjen Robben struck a post in the second, Mandžukić headed in from close range on 64 minutes to end any prospect of an unlikely quarter-final comeback. Pizarro's low strike in added time merely heightened the misery for Juventus, for whom this was a first reverse in Europe at their new stadium. The only downside for the victors was the first-half booking Mandžukić received which rules him out of the semi-final first leg. The Italian hosts pressed hard from the off but Mirko Vučinić's shot from a good position failed to trouble Manuel Neuer, while Claudio Marchisio missed the target from distance. Bayern were more dangerous with their first attack, Simone Padoin blocking a short-range effort by Mandžukić following Franck Ribéry's clever pass. Andrea Pirlo did go close after 23 minutes with a powerful free-kick from the edge of the box, but Neuer was up to the task, getting two strong fists to the ball to beat it away. Soon after, Paul Pogba found space on the right yet none of his team-mates could apply the final touch to his dangerous low cross. Ten minutes before the interval, visiting coach Jupp Heynckes lost Daniel Van Buyten to injury, replacing the centre-back with Jérôme Boateng. Bayern – who clinched the Bundesliga title with six games to spare last weekend – finished the opening half forcefully, David Alaba forcing Gianluigi Buffon into a difficult save with a powerful strike following a corner from the right. Like the first period, Juventus started positively after the break and threatened when Fabio Quagliarella tried his luck with a strong right-footed shot after dribbling past Philipp Lahm. Just before the hour, though, Bayern went even closer. Ribéry, on the counterattack, found Mandžukić on the edge of the area and the forward knocked the ball down to Robben, who hit the upright with a curling attempt. Minutes later, however, the Juventus Stadium did fall silent. Bastian Schweinsteiger delivered a free-kick from the left and while Buffon made a superb stop to keep out Javi Martínez's volley, he could do nothing to prevent Mandžukić heading in the rebound. Thomas Müller could have added a swift second but missed the target after a pass by Robben. Instead, substitute Pizarro put the seal on Bayern's third semi-final qualification in four seasons with the last act of the match, taking a measured Schweinsteiger pass in his stride and firing across Buffon.

Serie A Matchday 31 Juventus 2-1 Pescara @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Mirko Vučinić 73(r),78 Pescara:Emmanuel Cascione 83 Vucinic strikes twice to sink Pescara(Juventus Official Website)
A Mirko Vucinic double helped overcome an inspired goalkeeping display by Ivan Pelizzoli as Juventus maintained their Scudetto charge with this evening’s 2-1 triumph over relegation-threatened Pescara. The Bianconeri were good value for the three points after dominating from start to finish but were made to wait until 73 minutes before finding a way past a seemingly unbeatable Pelizzoli. Vucinic converted from the spot after Arturo Vidal was felled in the area and doubled his individual tally five minutes later with a precise shot from close range. Emmanuel Cascione’s late rocket sparked fears of a visitors’ comeback, but Juventus saw out the remaining seven minutes plus stoppage time to record their fourth consecutive Serie A victory. Despite doing much of the early running and commanding the lion’s share of possession, Antonio Conte’s men were largely restricted to long-range attempts on goal as they laboured to get in behind Pescara’s well-marshalled backline. Paul Pogba guided a 20-yard attempt over the bar on seven minutes, while the same fate befell Vucinic when he tried his luck with a right-footed pile driver just moments later. On 11 minutes, Stephan Lichtsteiner’s inviting cross fell kindly into the path of Emanuele Giaccherini, whose volley on the turn was instinctively parried by Pelizzoli in the visitors’ goal. Undeterred, Juventus kept rampaging forward and thought they had seized the advantage when Sebastian Giovinco bundled his way into the area on 16 minutes, only for Pelizzoli to thwart his toe-poked attempt with a sharp dash off his line. The goalkeeper again earned his spurs on 24 minutes, spreading himself to perform an excellent block after an unmarked Vidal had steered Vucinic’s precise cross on target with a well-timed volley from close range. The introduction of Fabio Quagliarella, an enforced change after Giovinco departed the action on a stretcher, offered the Bianconeri another dimension in attack and only Pelizzoli’s magnificent tip on to the post prevented the Naples-born frontman from breaking the deadlock ten minutes before the interval. As the seconds ticked down to the midway point in proceedings, Pescara again had the 32-year-old shotstopper to thank after he plunged to his left to keep out Giaccherini’s effort which arrowed ominously towards the bottom corner. Juventus emerged for the second half with increased impetus and had the opportunity to take the lead when Kwadwo Asamoah’s fierce cross from the byline was beaten back into path of Vucinic. The Montenegrin, however, snatched at the chance and saw his volley drop wide of goal. It looked like it was going to be another one of those evenings for the hosts as an inspired Pelizzoli grew in stature with every save made. Next to threaten was Quagliarella, with the goalkeeper again proving equal to the task by touching his volleyed attempt over the upright. But the heavy flow of one way traffic at Juventus Stadium eventually proved too much for the visitors to resist as a neat free-kick routine resulted in Vidal being felled by Rizzo’s clumsy challenge from behind. Penalty to Juventus. Pescara down to ten men. Vucinic dusted himself down and assumed the responsibility, making no mistake with a 73rd minute spot kick which evaded Pelizzoli’s despairing dive. And the 29-year-old looked to have put the result beyond any doubt five minutes later with a well-placed curling strike into the bottom corner that left Pelizzoli with no chance. Pescara, however, drew on all their battling instincts and clawed their way back into the encounter when Cascione’s unstoppable effort flew past Marco Storari with seven minutes remaining. Yet there was to be no final twist in the tale as Juventus held on for a vital three points which make their dreams of a second consecutive Scudetto triumph appear an ever-increasing reality.

UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals 1st leg. Bayern München 2-0 Juventus @ Fußball Arena München Bayern München:David Alaba 1,Thomas Müller 63 Bayern take command against Juventus(uefa.com)
FC Bayern München 2-0 Juventus Goals from David Alaba, after 25 seconds, and Thomas Müller ended Juve's 18-match European unbeaten run and put Bayern in charge of the tie. FC Bayern München are in pole position to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the third time in four seasons after ending Juventus's 18-match unbeaten run in Europe. David Alaba struck after just 25.02 seconds – the seventh-fastest goal in UEFA Champions League history – to put the Bundesliga leaders in front but it was their Serie A counterparts who went on to enjoy the better of the early exchanges until Bayern eventually wrested control. The Bavarian club rarely looked like relinquishing their advantage subsequently and, after Thomas Müller tapped in his fifth goal of this term's competition three minutes past the hour, they will head to Turin for next week's quarter-final return leg full of confidence. Bayern could hardly have wished for a better start as Alaba opened the scoring with the game's first attack, firing beyond Gianluigi Buffon from distance via a deflection off Arturo Vidal. It was the first UEFA Champions League goal Juve had conceded in 490 minutes yet the visitors remained composed and their five-man midfield initially did well to stretch the hosts. Andrea Pirlo shaved the crossbar with a dipping free-kick, with Vidal driving another effort narrowly wide. However, an injury to Bayern's Toni Kroos meant an early introduction for Arjen Robben, brimming with belief after scoring twice in Saturday's 9-2 thrashing of Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga, and the substitute soon helped Bayern onto the front foot. He was unfortunate to see his first strike on target repelled by Buffon after a poor clearance from Andrea Barzagli, but then might have done better from Müller's pull-back, side-footing wide at the near post. Indeed, with Franck Ribéry and Bastian Schweinsteiger also threatening, Jupp Heynckes' side might well have wondered how they were not further ahead at the interval, even after Leonardo Bonucci glanced just over from a corner on the stroke of half-time. Bayern again set the tempo after the restart, though the slenderness of their lead made for a less than comfortable atmosphere among the home fans. That all changed on 63 minutes as Müller doubled Bayern's advantage, touching in Mario Mandžukić's unselfish square pass after the Croatian was first to pounce on a parried Luiz Gustavo shot. Vidal called Manuel Neuer into a pair of saves as Juventus sought a quick response, but their prowess faded in the latter stages and they were ultimately fortunate that Müller failed to further increase Bayern's aggregate cushion at the last. Having suffered their first European defeat in more than three years, Antonio Conte's team have it all to do in the return next Wednesday.
