Goalless draw in Salerno(Juventus Official Website)
Another test match towards the championship. Further fuel in the Bianconeri’s engine and new aspects to improve. Juventus left Salerno with a goalless draw against Real Betis and more awareness.
The result came from a balanced clash against a fit rival, already prepared for sustaining the first match in the Spanish Liga. There are 15 days to go before the first Serie A fixture and two other test matches. First the TIM Trophy, then the Berlusconi Trophy. Two important chances to directly start facing Inter and Milan, two opponents for the next season as well.
For the clash at the Arechi, Conte fielded Buffon between the sticks, Lichtsteiner, Bonucci, Barzagli and De Ceglie in defense. Pirlo and Marchisio as central midfielders. Krasic and Pasquato on their respective sides to aid the two central strikers, Matri and Vucinic.
Following the first five stalling minutes, the Bianconeri started to push. Pasquato run on the left, moved to the middle and shifted towards Vucinic who unfortunately missed the ball. The cushion play made by the two central strikers was fundamental to spur Pasquato and Krasic. In the 14th minute, Matri triggered the Serbian, just anticipated by the Spanish goalkeeper exiting from his goal. Real Betis scored with Molina but the forward was apparently offside.
One week before the beginning of the Spanish Liga, the side from Seville was better shaped and tried to take advantage of the situation, especially by forcing the actions. The Bianconeri conveniently managed the circumstances, especially thanks to the dribbling skills shown by Pirlo and Marchisio.
In order to stop a personal action by Montero, Buffon had to use his fists. At mid-time, Real Betis showed their best, but Juventus broke their pace acquiring a free kick from the box border, thanks to Pirlo who was also entrusted the kick, but hit the wall.
The action in the 29th minute was more dangerous: Matri passed to Pasquato who run towards midfield and tried his right-foot shot, obliging Casto to perform a great save diverting the ball towards the corner. Conte’s men took over the reins of the game. The precise throws to find Krasic and Pasquato serve to break the opponents’ pressing and start dangerous actions. Montero created the most danger among the Spanish players, but his shot from the left went high.
Just before the break, Real Betis lived two shocking moments. Always from the left, where Montero confirmed his brilliance. The player from Ecuador was alone in the box and Barzagli intercepted his shot thus saving Buffon’s goal. Sevilla’s shot then went wide by the side of the post. On the 0-0 result, both sides went to the dressing rooms.
Second half. Conte just replaced his goalkeeper: Storari instead of Buffon. Real Betis pushed with a new spur and shot twice. Molina’s performance in the 13th minute was the most dangerous and forced Storari to brilliantly clear the ball.
In the 15th minute, the Bianconeri shook themselves. Following a ground-level action, Pirlo pushed the ball through between Vucinic and Krasic, achieving a corner. The two players were back to dialogue forward and just a desperate intervention from the Spanish defense stopped the Bianconeri’s action.
In the 20th minute, the Arechi stadium went wild. Conte fielded Del Piero and Iaquinta to replace Matri and Vucinic. The captain started well from the very beginning, and following Krasic’s assist, he forced Casto to save with his feet. This event broke the deadlock of the game and, thanks to the push from the public as well, Juve took up the match. Pasquato almost scored again.
Around the 30th minute, Josè Mel - Real Betis manager - changed his first-string lineup. Conte replaced Pirlo with Pazienza, and fielded Sorensen and Ruggiero instead of Krasic and Pasquato, with Lichtsteiner slightly moved forward.
The Spanish side tried to be dangerous, but Storari only deal with ordinary tasks. The final result was 0-0, perfectly mirroring the balance shown on the pitch.
There are two weeks to go before the championship, the right time required to improve all remaining aspects.
