«È un’autentica finale». Bastano queste poche parole di Ciro Ferrara, dette all’inizio della conferenza stampa di vigilia, a far capire l’importanza che riveste la gara di domani con il Bayern Monaco.
Contro i tedeschi, i bianconeri si giocano il passaggio del turno e la qualificazione degli ottavi di finale di Champions League. Tutto in 90 minuti. Con la possibilità di poter giocare per due risultati su tre, grazie a una classifica che può vantare un punto in più rispetto alla squadra di Van Gaal. «Sia noi che loro ci giochiamo tutto e alla fine solo una squadra potrà uscire vincitrice. Noi ci giochiamo il passaggio del turno, la qualificazione e altri aspetti importanti per la squadra e per la società. Ci basta il pareggio, ma una grande squadra non deve pensare a questo e io voglio giocare per vincere. Il Bayern? È vero che dovrà vincere per forza, ma non credo perderà l’equilibrio giusto e cercherà di sfruttare le proprie occasioni».
La sfida con i tedeschi arriva a tre giorni esatti dalla grande prova di carattere offerta con l’Inter. Una vittoria di prestigio che, oltre al valore della classifica, ha dato una grande carica proprio in vista del nuovo appuntamento. «Vorrei rivedere lo stesso spirito – continua Ferrara – ma anche attenzione, determinazione e voglia di attaccare, proprio come successo sabato. Se riuscissimo a ripetere la stessa prestazione, sarei felice. So che fino ad ora abbiamo alternato partite buone e altre in cui abbiamo fatto poco per evitare la sconfitta. Ci manca questo ulteriore passo per mantenere i livelli altissimi durante il campionato. Una certa costanza ci permetterebbe di avere un distacco minore».
Quindi sotto con la nuova gara decisiva. Iniziata non nel migliore dei modi per Ferrara, subito costretto a dover rinunciare a Chiellini. Un’assenza importante, a cui il tecnico sa come sopperire: «Giorgio verso la fine della partita ha accusato questo fastidio e domani non potrà essere in campo. Per noi è un’assenza importante, visto il momento che stava attraversando. Comunque ho piena fiducia in Legrottaglie che avrebbe giocato indipendentemente da questo infortunio».

Only victory will do for Bayern and they have many players who can cause us trouble. I don't think they will start at full pelt from kick-off. They are a great side and they are used to playing these kind of games. They will try to hurt us when they have the chance. I expect Bayern to start with Robben because he has recovered from injury. I would be satisfied to see the same performance as the game against Inter. I would like to see the same spirit, the same level of concentration and desire to win. We need to take a further step to keep our level of performance high. A bad game now and then can happen, but we have to reduce them if we want to win titles.

We definitely have a chance. There is one big difference between Juventus and ourselves: we have to win whereas for them a draw is enough, so we have strong motivation. Juventus won a difficult match against Inter which has given them confidence as a win is always important for every team. I can't say I'm satisfied with Bayern's results. I thought the squad would improve quicker than it has, but we've suffered a lot of injuries this season and there are many new players in the team. If we beat Juve and win the next two or three games I'll be much more satisfied with how the season has gone. We are Bayern, so we can beat every team, but at the same time we can lose against anyone. We got a win in our last [Bundesliga] match, so our confidence is high.
