Spurs also look set to face a battle to hang on to striker Jermain Defoe in the January transfer window, as the England man is worried a lack of opportunities is hurting his bid to be part of the Three Lions squad for next summer's Euro 2012 tournament.

Juventus have put Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott at the top of their shopping list in a bid to strengthen their push for the Italian title.

The Turin club also want to sign emerging Brazil striker Leandro Damiao, who has been pursued by Tottenham and Arsenal over the last year.

Walcott and, in particular, Bale have long been admired by Juve, and general director Giuseppe Marotta has made it a priority to strengthen the flanks after being cleared to spend big in January.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Tottenham’s high valuation of Bale makes a deal seem beyond reach, unless the 22-year-old Wales star can be persuaded to seek a move to Serie A.

Juve hope Arsenal are more willing to negotiate on Walcott, who is out of contract at the end of next season, and are prepared to offer Milos Krasic in part-exchange for the England international.

Arsenal were one of a number of English clubs who tracked Krasic before he moved from CSKA Moscow to Juventus 15 months ago.

The 27-year-old Serb is out of favour with coach Antonio Conte and is keen to move to England in January, despite receiving big-money offers to return to Russia or move to Turkey.

Damiao has been in red-hot form for Brazilian side Internacional this year, scoring 40 goals in 52 games.

Tottenham twice bid for the 22-year-old in the summer but fell short of the £15million asking price, which has now reached at least £20m.

Juventus have switched their attention to Damiao after deciding a move for Carlos Tevez did not represent good value for money. The Manchester City striker has also told his representatives that he would rather move to Milan than Turin.

Juve remain keen on signing a centre half but are struggling to find a top-class player to fit their budget - especially if they switch their attention to signing forwards.

They remain keen on Spurs centre half Younes Kaboul and hope to use Brazil-born Italy striker Amauri as part-payment in any deal for the France defender.
