Serie A Matchday 15 Juventus 3-0 Torino @ Juventus Stadium Juventus:Claudio Marchisio 57,84,Sebastian Giovinco 67 Boyhood Bianconeri see off rivals Torino(Juventus Official Website)
Academy stars Claudio Marchisio and Sebastian Giovinco were on target as the Bianconeri put local rivals Torino to the sword in a 3-0 win at Juventus Stadium. In truth, Juventus could have won by an even greater margin after crushing their opponents with a ruthless second-half display. A fractious encounter, which featured a sending off and a missed Andrea Pirlo penalty, came to life in the opening stages of the second half when Marchisio met Giovinco’s cross to head the hosts in front. Provider then turned goalscorer on 67 minutes with a drilled shot across goal, before Marchisio popped up in the box to make the points safe with five minutes remaining. With an eye on Wednesday’s crucial Champions League clash against Shakhtar in Donetsk, Antonio Conte made several changes to his starting line-up and system. De Ceglie came in at left-back, Pogba slotted into midfield and Giaccherini offered support to Vucinic and Giovinco in attack. Sparks were always destined to fly in the first encounter of the inter-city rivals since the 2008/09 campaign. And while the Bianconeri posed a consistent threat going forward, it was the visitors who fashioned the first clear-cut attempt on goal with 23 minutes played, Meggiorini shrugging off the challenge of Bonucci before clipping the ball just wide of Buffon’s far post. Juventus fought back by testing Gillet with two long-range efforts from Pogba just beyond the half-hour mark, both clawed away to safety by the Belgian shot-stopper. With the heat of the derby atmosphere continuing to rise as Conte’s men knocked on the door, Torino midfielder Glik was shown a straight red card following a rash challenge on Giaccherini. Five minutes before the interval, Juventus were presented with the perfect opportunity to edge their noses in front when Pogba was upended in the area. Rocchi had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, only for Pirlo to fluff his lines by sending his effort over the bar. Alessio opted to introduce Bendtner at the start of the second half in place of Giaccherini, a move which saw the Bianconeri operate with three recognised strikers in an adventurous system. The substitution almost paid immediate dividends, as Pogba headed over following a neat Bendtner flick-on at the near post. Further opportunities continued to fall in the hosts’ favour as they launched a relentless assault on Torino’s penalty area. Pirlo stung the fingertips of Gillet from outside the box, Bonucci planted a header over the bar from a corner and Vucinic was a whisker away from steering Giovinco’s teasing cross into the back of the net. But Juventus maintained their composure and reaped the rewards when Marchisio timed his forward burst to perfection to head Giovinco’s cross past Gillet on 57 minutes. Sensing the opportunity to inflict further damage upon their inter-city rivals, Alessio introduced Asamoah in place of De Ceglie and urged the team to persist with their attacking approach. The two-goal cushion arrived ten minutes later, with Giovinco’s firm strike nestling deliciously into the bottom corner. Roared on from start to finish by a passionate sell-out crowd at Juventus Stadium, Conte’s men wrapped up the points six minutes from time as Marchisio, a thorn in the visitors’ side throughout, grabbed his second of the night with a precise close-range finish. SENT OFF: Glik 36
