Nobody ever will forget this date: the 11th of March 2001. A year ago, like all of you I remained shocked by the news from Japan: terrible earth tremors, tsunami and then an awful nuclear disaster in Fukushima. The only certainty that we all had in that dismay was the sureness that this nation would demonstrate its resilience right from the day after the disaster and slowly all the pain, even if indelible, would be replaced by the hope.
That's why, a year later, I want to mention the cover of the magazine that I saw a week ago. The headline of the first page reads: "Japan of miracles - Stronger than ever". And then, below, another line " Bent down by that earthquake, tsunami and disaster, nuclear and otherwise, the Land of the Rising Sun seemed to be condemned to an incredibly long crisis. And yet, a year later, this country is back on its feet, has started the reconquest and all because of its resilience, because of the people that never give up ( and never complain)".
I believe there's no need to add anything else. Now, that 365 days have passed since that horrible 11th of March, I would like to send a big hug to all Japanese people, that have always shown me their affection. Your pride and dignity is an inspiration and an example to follow, I'm happy that I was able to demonstrate you my solidarity with the Ale10friendsforJapan campaign, together with a lot of friends who joined me on the occasion to donate our drop into the sea of your courage. There's still a lot to do, but I know exactly you can make it.

ユベントスのカピターノ、アレッサンドロ・デル・ピエロは自身のオフィシャルサイトで１年前の東日本大震災へ言及（２００１年となっているのは単純なミスだろうね）。日本が未曾有の大災害にありがならあきらめず、復興へ向けて歩んでいることを嬉しく思っているとコメント。
イタリアのとある雑誌には「奇跡の日本、彼らは今まで以上に強い」と書かれていたことを引用して、アレ自身に感動を与えてくれたと話す。
アレは日本人すべてにハグをしたいといい、そして、まだたくさんやるべきことがあるけれども、日本人はそれを成し遂げられるとぼくは知っているよと締めくくっている。
